M.Volkan CAKIR is a PhD student at IZBI since March 2010(Republic of Turkey Ministry of National Education Scholar). From 2008 to 2010, he studied under supervision of Jens Allmer in IYTE to his MSc degree (as TUBITAK scholar and research assistant). Through his MSc he studied on assessment of possible miRNA regulation in T.gondii via constituting a pipeline of folding and certain filtering steps and constructing a database of possible miRNA regulatory networks.

He had his undergraduate degree on Molecular Biology and Genetics from Istanbul University in 2007. His BSc thesis was on statistical analysis of different NRAMP polymorphisms in human.

His current interests are biophysical modelling of nucleosome positioning and binding, evaluation and analysis of next generation sequencing data, profiling of switches in gene regulatory networks, assessment of differential expression via self-organizing maps..
